Panelists
Michael Kobori, VP - Supply Chain (Social & Environmental Sustainability), Levi Strauss & Co.
As
Vice President of Supply Chain at Levis Strauss, Michael Kobori leads the
company’s efforts on environmental sustainability. He is also
responsible for seeing that labor, environment, health and safety standards
are upheld in the company’s supplier network worldwide. In addition, he
oversees regulatory compliance on environment, health and safety throughout
the company’s supply chain, distribution, and retail operations.
Mr.
Kobori has also served as Director, Global Code of Conduct and Senior
Manager of Government Affairs at Levi Strauss & Co. Previously, he was
Vice-President at Business for Social Responsibility (BSR) and Director of
BSR’s Business and Human Rights Program.
Prior to
his work in the private sector, Mr. Kobori spent nearly a decade at The Asia
Foundation, supporting human rights, economic development, and regional
cooperation in Asia. There, he served in a number of positions including
Director of Vietnam Programs, Assistant Representative in Thailand,
Executive Assistant to the President, and Assistant Representative in
Bangladesh.
Mr.
Kobori has spoken on social and environmental sustainability to
organizations around the world. He serves on the advisory boards for The
Asia Society’s Asian Social Issues Program and the Japan Society’s
U.S.-Japan Innovators Project.
Mr. Kobori received his Masters in Public Policy from the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California at Berkeley. He also received his A.B. in Asian Studies and Psychology from the University of California at Berkeley. He lives in Berkeley, California with his wife, Sachiko Nagai, and their two daughters, Anne and Ellen.
Ayesha Khan,
Manager - Advisory Services, Business for Social
Responsibility
Ayesha
Khan is a Manager within BSR’s advisory services practice. In this capacity
she assists companies in addressing ethical sourcing concerns within their
supply chains and works closely with private foundations, governments and
multilateral institutions. Project work has encompassed assessing
reproductive health needs of female factory workers in Pakistan, educating
international buyers on the Better Factories Cambodia program, linking
competitiveness to CSR in Peru and working with manufacturers and buyers to
address migrant labor issues in Jordan. Ayesha
has also worked on projects related to better understanding the costs and
benefits of implementing CSR programs from the supplier perspective within
the apparel sector in Pakistan and the electronics industry in China.
Prior to joining BSR, Ayesha served as a financial analyst at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco and a strategy consultant at CRA Rogers Casey. Ayesha has a Masters in Public Policy from the University of California, Berkeley and a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Information Systems from the University of Houston, Texas.
Bonnie Nixon Gardiner, Global Program Manager for Supply Chain Social & Environmental Responsibility, Hewlett-Packard
At
HP, Ms Nixon Gardiner is responsible for strategy and management of HP’s
worldwide Supply Chain Social and Environmental Responsibility Program.
She plays a leadership role with major competitors and suppliers on a common
industry code of conduct and implementation tools including risk assessment,
self assessment, auditing and reporting tools
She also oversees a worldwide audit program with 500 suppliers and provides ongoing audit training to 70 staff located in Mexico, South America, Eastern Europe, India, China and Southeast Asia.
Prior to joining HP, as Vice President of an Environmental Communications Firm, Ms. Gardiner managed more than 200 public and private sector projects with business, government, community and non-governmental entities. Her 23 years of experience spans across several industries including technology, biotech, financial, water, natural resource protection and utilities, food processing and transportation.
Moderator
Jo Mackness, CSR Integration Leader, Ernst & Young
Jo
Mackness works to embed corporate social responsibility into core business
processes and activities. As Ernst & Young’s CSR Integration Leader, Jo’s
incorporates a CSR perspective into internal and external communications,
people processes, key stakeholder engagement, supply chain, and emerging
issue risks and opportunities. During her time at EY, Jo has also been a
strong supporter of environmental responsibility and has been integral to
the creation of a new position focused on minimizing EY’s environmental
footprint.
Prior to EY, Jo was a human capital consultant working in the US and the UK, primarily serving professional services and financial services firms on transactions, corporate governance and executive compensation issues. Clients Jo has served include Fuji Bank, MetLife Capital, New Balance, PricewaterhouseCoopers, PepsiCo, Starbucks and St. Supery Winery.
Jo holds an MBA from the University of California at Berkeley Haas School of Business. She continues to work closely with the Center for Responsible Business at Berkeley where she was a teaching assistant for both undergraduate and graduate classes in the area of corporate social responsibility. Jo is also a national board member of Net Impact, a network of new leaders who are using the power of business to make a positive net social, environmental, and economic impact.
A dual citizen of the UK and US, Jo lives in San Francisco with her Danish husband and toddler son.
